Weather permitting, check out snowshoes at our visitor center and experience the natural beauty of our grounds via a different form of historic transportation! Snowshoes are available with 4+ inches of snow cover. The remainder of our site buildings, including the original Wade House Inn, our sawmill, and blacksmith shop, reopen for general admission in May 2024.

Wade House
Wade House is a fun-filled day for family and friends to walk in the footsteps of their ancestors in
Paul Reckner, PhD, Archaeology Project Leader at the Wisconsin Historical Society, will be the speaker at the Friends of the Wade House annual meeting on April 24, 2024 at the Wade House Visitor Center. The public is invited to join the Wade House Friends for this event featuring a potluck dinner at 5:30 pm and Paul Reckner’s talk “Greenbush Underground: Archaeology at the Wade House Historic Site and Beyond” at 6:30 pm. Feel free to join the Friends for the potluck or just the program.
Membership in the Friends of the Wade House Inc. is open to anyone who is interested in preserving and promoting the history of the Wade House. At Wade House today, guests returned to an era when all food was local and farming was a family-run affair with author Susan Apps-Bodilly, daughter of the beloved storyteller Jerry Apps. Susan highlighted the farm family food that only her paternal grandmother knew how to make as she spoke about the Old Farm Country Cookbook, a book that she co-authored with her father. It was a delightful culinary tour of life on a Wisconsin farm during the Depression and World War II. The program concluded in the Wade House stagecoach inn with guests sampling dishes from Eleanor App's Depression Era recipe box. Apple Fritter Bread, Bean Salad, Leftover Chicken Casserole, Chocolate Cherry Cake and a variety of cookies were enjoyed by all.
